Total Film Gives Premium Fries With ‘Salt’!

Salt

Liev and Angie

Speaking to TF recently, director Phillip Noyce boiled down the appeal of Salt thus: “How much fun is it to see a beautiful woman demolish 50 guys?” [Spreads arms wide open] “This much!”

Evelyn Salt offers Hollywood’s most successful female action star a new platform to kick ass. And of course, to try and take on the big Bs at the box office: Bond and Bourne.

Sony has made little secret of its hopes this could be the Next Big Spy Franchise. The film offers plenty of compare and contrast moments throughout, starting with the very first seconds.

Evelyn Salt is first and foremost a spy. Gender is a secondary issue. No punches are pulled, literally, in a brutal beginning. You almost expect it to end with 007-type opening credits.

Instead, we get stark, slick, and brief graphics. This isn’t a film with time to kill. From start to finish, there’s rarely anything approaching a quiet moment.

In fact, the film goes out of its way to try and wrong-foot you on everyone’s motives: all the main characters hint at duplicity at one point or another and half the fun is trying to work out who you’re supposed to be rooting for.

By turns vicious and vulnerable, Jolie is in her element as a new action heroine with icon potential. Keeping you guessing and gasping, it passes the litmus test of any new franchise: come the credit roll, you’ll be wanting more Salt.

Liev Schreiber On “Green” Parenting: “Kai Wears Sasha’s Clothes”

Liev Schreiber

NEW YORK (CBS) Actor Liev Schreiber knows a thing or two about being “green” with a growing family.

The “Salt” actor took part in “The Darker Side of Green” debate Tuesday night at the Bowery Hotel in New York, which tackled issues such as global warming and eco-sensibility.

In Schreiber’s two-son household, even kids’ clothes get recycled.

The 42-year-old actor and his partner, actress Naomi Watts, are the parents of Alexander “Sasha” Pete, 2, and 19-month-old Samuel Kai. Schreiber says he and Watts follow the usual “Earth smart” parent tactic of handing down his two son’s clothing.

“Kai wears Sasha’s clothes,” Schreiber tells Celebrity Circuit.

Schreiber says he tries to involve his sons in his life as much as possible. His children were with him when he attended the “Salt” premiere in Los Angeles. “The kids are at that age where it’s difficult,” Schreiber tells Celebrity Circuit. “To make a film, you have to be prepared to give a year-and-a-half to two years of your life.”

As for working with “Salt” co-star Angelina Jolie, Schreiber commends her for her “diligence and her commitment to the job” and tells Celebrity Circuit, “She really takes a lot of responsibility.”

“Stay-cations” are in vogue in a cash-strapped economy, so when Schreiber has time to hang out with his family in their New York home, they keep it pretty local. “There’s a pool at the Y. There’s the fish park.”

When probed about the exact location of his leisurely New York “fish park,” the actor says, “I’m not prepared to give that secret away.”

Liev Attends San Diego Comic Con 2010

Liev Schreiber

Liev attended this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, along with Angelina Jolie, director Phillip Noyce and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, to promote their new movie, ‘Salt’, which opens tonight.

Liev was in his element, constantly cracking jokes and catering to the audience. Both actors spoke of their experiences in filming the movie, in which Angelina did most of her stunts, but banged her head during one of them.

When asked what firearms were used during filming, Angelina said she liked working with a fire extinguisher in ways she never expected and Liev just said “Super Soaker!”

Director Noyce called Liev “one of America’s greatest working actors,” and the audience agreed with their applauds. Liev also did a lot of research on real life spies, assisted by his wife Naomi Watts’ recent role as Valerie Plame. He said there’s a true sense of patriotism and love of country that’s at stake.

Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts: “Salt” Sweethearts

Liev & Naomi

Showing up for a hard-earned night, Liev Schreiber attended the Los Angeles, California premiere of “Salt” on Monday (July 19) at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

The “Defiance” actor and his domestic partner, Naomi Watts, looked lovely as they arrived for the showing of his latest film in which he plays a colleague and friend to Angelina Jolie’s character, Evelyn Salt.

Of his sexy co-star, Liev recently told press, “I met her years ago at Sundance, but I get nervous around famous people and beautiful women, so this was like a double whammy for me.”

But it sounds like he was able to pull himself together -Schreiber says he and Angelina bonded over chats about their kids, teething and timeouts.

Liev and Angelina switched roles

Angelina, Liev & Naomi

Liev Schreiber has revealed that he and Angelina Jolie swapped roles in their new spy thriller Salt.

The star said the pair thought changing parts would be for the best.

“I was initially going to play Salt,” Liev told reporters at the film’s Hollywood premiere.

He explained: “I spoke to Angelina about it and we both decided she’d be better for the role, so that’s how it went down.”

Both actors have young families and Liev said shooting in New York was a real family affair.

“It was the best, the kids would come with us to set and all the kids would play together, it was fantastic,” he said.

Although Angelina pulls off some pretty impressive action scenes in the movie, Liev revealed she had the best help on hand.

“In all fairness to the stunt people she doesn’t do all of the stunts herself but she does a lot of them. She’s very good at that stuff, she’s very good at the physicality,” he revealed.

Liev Probably Not In Scream 4

Liev as Cotton

Liev Schreiber has confirmed something that seems pretty obvious to me, something that most people suspected – His character Cotton Weary will not return in Scream 4.

“Cotton is dead!” Schreiber told IGN. “I know, I keep reading on the Internet that I’m doing Scream 4, but I don’t know where that comes from. No one ever told me I was doing Scream 4. No one ever mentioned anything to me.”

While Schreiber isn’t expected to make an appearance in the new sequel, yet another Scream series veteran has announced his plans to return for the fourth film. I’m not talking about the previously announced Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette or even Roger L. Jackson, the voice actor who provides the creepy voice of Ghostface. Who is it? Find out after the jump.
